The military intelligence units are in the process of gathering information about foreigners living in star class hotels in Colombo and suburbs following information received that a team had been sent to the country to gather and report details about internal affairs of the country to the UN, sources from the military intelligence units said.

The suspicion among the intelligence units have increased following the continuous questions posed by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon to President Mahinda Rajapaksa about the questioning of the former Army Intelligence Unit head and 17 other Army intelligence unit personnel over the assassination of The Sunday Leader Editor, Lasantha Wickrematunge.
However, it is also learnt that Ban Ki-moon had challenged the comment made by Director General, Media Center for National Security, Lakshman Hulugalle to the media, especially the international media, that Army personnel have not been taken into custody over Wickrematunge’s assassination.

Meanwhile, it is also learnt that Hulugalle had informed the President that the media operation launched through the Chinese media to build the image of the country was no longer valid.
