  State intelligence units list journalists supportive of the opposition and NGOs
Saravanamuttu and Weliamuna top in the list!

  State intelligence units have prepared a list of names of active journalists and NGO activists and has given points to them according to the work carried out by them, reliable sources told Lanka News Web.

The list it is learnt contains the names of 35 persons and is divided into three sections – 1-9, 9-23 and 23-35. They have been categorized according their work and a brief description about of each individual is also carried before each name.

At the top of the list of names is that of journalist and NGO activist, Dr. Paikiasothy Saravanamuttu
  of the Center for Policy Alternatives and has been given marked 9+. Another individual to have received the same points as Saravanamuttu is the Sri Lankan Director of Transparency International, Attorney Krishantha Weliamuna.

The other two individuals to receive the same points are the Convener of the Free Media Movement and Deputy Editor, Irudina newspaper, Sunil Jayasekera and Lankaenews Editor, Sandaruwan Senadhira.

Convener of Rights Now and Joint Movement for Democracy, Advocate Sudarshana Gunawardena has been given a few points lower than those topping the list. He has been given 8+ points. Compiler of the Ground views website, Sanjana Hattotuwa and that of the Alternative website, Rasika Perera have been given 7+ points.

Also, names of journalists Hannah Ibrahim, Sharmini Boyle and Bhavani Fonseka have been included in the list.

Interestingly, the names of journalists attached to The Sunday Leader have not been included in the list. However, the list contains the names of journalists who have fled the country and are still involved in active media work.

A Sri Lankan journalist currently living overseas told Lanka News Web that the results of preparing such a list would be seen after the general elections. The journalist also said that the Rajapaksa government wanted a country without a free media.
