Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) Treasurer, Minister Dullas Alahapperuma has issued notice on the party’s women’s wing and the trade union wing to move out of the respective building with immediate effect, sources from the SLFP headquarters said.

Alahapperuma it is learnt has informed officials at the party headquarters to find alternative office spaces for the members of the women’s wing and the trade union wing. He has said the President had requested for the setting up of a website office and a newspaper office at the locations where the two wings are housed at present.

The offices of the two wings that were located at the third floor of the party headquarters was moved to an adjoining building after the floor was rented out to a ministry. The Dinakara newspaper office was earlier located in this building.

Alahapperuma who had recently arrived at the building where the party’s women’s wing and trade union wing was located along with about 100 security personnel and had inspected the building. He had ordered the Administration Secretary, Ariyasena to ask the staff working in the building to immediately vacate the premises and release it to him.

Although Ariyasena has explained there was no room to house the two wings in the party headquarters building, Alahapperuma had said, “The premises has to be given to me in one week, even after chasing the people there to the streets.”

It is learnt that many party activists who gathered at the headquarters upon hearing that Alahapperuma was visiting the premises were disappointed when the Minister had ignored them and left soon after inspecting the Dinakara building.

Sources further noted that since Alahapperuma left the headquarters building after trying to operate an office claiming to be in line with a Presidential directive, had not returned to the building. Alahapperuma was forced to leave the headquarters since he was not well accepted by party Secretary, Minister Maithripala Sirisena and the staff.

SLFP administrative officials said that as a result, they have to spend hours idling at the Transport Ministry even to get Alahapperuma’s signature for a cheque.
