Military activities in the North remain unchanged although special security measures in the area have been minimized following the removal of emergency regulations.
TNA parliamentarian Suresh Premachandran said the military protection in the North remained unchanged even after the removal of emergency and the high security zones in the area also remained.
Premachandran said the military personnel positioned various areas, the military installations put up in private properties and road blocks in some areas still remained.
Military Spokesperson Brigadier Nihal Hapuarachchi said the military did not conduct any special security programmes in the North.
He said there were no high security zones in the North and that the military personnel carried out their daily duties while the only military installations in the area were the permanent camps.
He added that although emergency regulations were removed, the military would continue to carry out orders from the Defence Ministry under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA).
According to him, the Army would help the police in carrying out its civil duties.
