The Economic Development Ministry has taken over the task of collecting monies from schools for various projects in schools. A section of the Education Ministry has now been taken under the Economic Development Ministry. It is the Economic Development Ministry that carried out projects in schools like setting up walls and gates, renovating school buildings, painting the walls, toilet and sanitary facilities, water and electricity and putting up school name boards.

The principals are to inform the parents of the projects the school would have to undertake during the parent teacher meetings. Therefore, all projects mentioned above would be carried out with monies collected from the parents.

The Economic Development Ministry’s performance report indicates that the Ministry had taken over these tasks that were under the Education Ministry.

The circular that would stop monies being collected from parents for school activities is yet to be issued. A senior Education Ministry official said that a circular has to be issued nullifying the 2008/35 circular, which has given the green light to the collecting of monies from parents for school activities.
