Depsite requests made by the President from Jayantha Dharmadasa to contest for the post President of Sri Lanka Cricket, the President has agreed to give the post to Thilanga Sumathipala on a request made by MP Namal Rajapaksa.

However, the President had said that Jayantha Dharmadasa could be appointed as the President of Sri Lanka Cricket in the event objections are raised with the International Cricket Council (ICC) against MP Thilanga Sumathipala’s appointment since he operates a bookie.

The President had said that he had no objections to Dharmadasa handing his nominations for the post. He had also told Dharmadasa that he should withdraw his nomination papers if there was no objection to Sumathipala from the ICC.
