President Mahinda Rajapaksa has told Justice Minister Rauf Hakeem in a lighter vein that he was appointed to the portfolio in order to satisfy the Chief Justice since he had a good reputation of pleasing women, sources from Temple Trees said.
“When you were appointed to the post, you were told to please the CJ since you are good at it, in order to get my work done without any problem. You agreed saying it was a simple job for you. But instead, you are busy pleasing women in New York night clubs. I have heard about your actions,” the President had said.
The President had made this comment during a discussion on the current status of the judiciary. Rauf Hakeem had been embarrassed by the President statement. A red faced Hakeem had then said, “How to please her sir when she does not even take the telephone call. Don’t’ worry. We are with you a 100% in this issue.”
In order to divert the attention from the President’s remarks and to recover from his embarrassing plight, Hakeem had started speaking about his lecture at a seminar that was held in New York on “Women and Child Rights” and the response received by his speech.
The Minister had also given a page of the Daily Mirror newspaper that had published the entire speech.
The official from Temple Trees who gave us this information said that there were questions over the moral right Hakeem has to deliver a speech on “Women and Child Rights” given that a woman named “Kumari” had committed suicide when she was six months pregnant due to one of Hakeem’s illicit affairs.
