Main political parties in the opposition are exploring the possibility of forming a Center to fight to safeguard the country’s judiciary.

JVP General Tilvin Silva indicated the first sign towards such a move at a press conference recently. He observed that everyone who values democracy should stand together to fight against the Rajapaksa government that is trying to establish a dictatorial rule.

Also, UNP parliamentarian Karu Jayasuriya also convened a media conference and said that all forces needed to unit to safeguard the independence of the judiciary and the supremacy of the law.

Meanwhile, UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake told the media that a common front needed to be established to fight to safeguard the independence of the judiciary and the supremacy of the law around the country.

The UNP General Secretary invited the JVP and the TNA to also join in forming such a force.

UNP Communications Division Head, parliamentarian Mangala Samaraweera said that a large number of government ministers were displeased and disgruntled over the moves against the judiciary.

He explained that opposition political parties should therefore come to an agreement on working together on an issue by issue basis to carry out a formidable fight against the government.

He added that discussions to form such an alliance are already underway.
