The President through the Presidential Secretary has informed all party leaders of the UPFA and the SLFP lawyers to attend a special meeting at Temple Trees at 7 p.m. on the 27th, reliable sources said.

The reason for the special discussion is to explore the possibility of bringing a impeachment (doshabiyogaya) against Chief Justice Shirani Bandaranayake, who has now become a headache to the Rajapaksas. Sources said the President has decided to somehow control the Chief Justice.

The President after the Cabinet meeting on the 26th had pointed out to ministers that the Secretary of the Judicial Services Commission (JSC), Manjula Thilekaratne is a stumbling block on the country’s good governance and that his unwarranted acts have brought about many complaints.

A special committee had been appointed under Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva to study this situation and decide on the course of action. The committee also comprises Ministers Maithripala Sirisena, Anura Priyadharshana Yapa, Vasudeva Nanayakkara, D.E.W. Gunasekera, Wimal Weerawansa and A.L.M. Athaullah.

The President had also made a special statement about the JSC at the meeting with media heads on the 27th morning. He had said the JSC Secretary had sexually abused the Naula Magistrate.
