Clad in the national outfit, Vimukthi Kumaratunge made his political debut on the 26th with his mother Chadnrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunge and Aunt Sunethra Bandaranaike by his side at the ceremony to mark the 53rd death anniversary of the late Prime Minister Solomon West Ridgeway Dias Bandaranaike at the Horagolla Samadhi.
Vimukthi, who works as a veterinary surgeon in London, is currently in Sri Lanka on a long holiday. Political analysts say that the event attended by him would be the first in a future political path.
Vimukthi had on previous occasions not taken the lead in paying floral tributes and has continuously said he had no intention of entering politics. However, political analysts say there was a marked change in his attitude at the ceremony.
After the event, Vimkuthi was engaged in a friendly conversation with those present and he had not made any negative remarks to comments that he should look at carrying on the Bandaranaike name in Sri Lankan politics.
