The case on the assassination of Presidential Advisor Bharatha Lakshman Premachandra being hear before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court is to nearing conclusion, sources from the CID said. Premachandra was killed during a shoot out in the Mulleriyawa area on October 8th last year.

The court has asked the authorities to inquire if indictments could be served on the main accused in the assassination, UPFA MP Duminda Silva and the other accused. However, the court is to be informed shortly that there was a lack of evidence to file indictment against Silva.

The statement given to the CID by Premachandra’s driver who witnessed the shoot out has been amended to suit the requirements of the Attorney General’s Departments.

CID officials had a few weeks back visited Premachandra’s Summit Flat residence and had recorded a fresh statement from the driver and got his signature. The new statement had been pasted on top of the initial statement.

The drivers’ new statement says he did not see Silva shooting Premachandra. It was Premachandra’s security that had first fired shots. Silva’s security had opened fire for the Right of Private Defence. Premachandra was killed during this shoot out.

Therefore, the murder case is likely to end in favor of the respondents.
