Everyone knows that Hollywood is the world’s larges cinema city located in the US. The Indian cinema has Bollywood.

Taking these two cinema cities into account the Rajapaksa government has set up a cinema village in their hometown Hambantota. The cinema village built in Ranminitenna, Hambantota is now called “Plywood” by officials at the Government Information Department.

The project was undertaken to promote the image of the Rajapaksas and art was used as a business by some artists. Hence, the buildings and props built in the cinema village have now started to deteriorate due to their inferior quality. Businessmen artists like Ravindra Randeniya, Jackson Anthony, Somaratne Dissanayake, Jayantha Chandrasiri and Renuka Balasuriya played made large sums of monies out of the project using inferior quality products.

The Government Information Department has now purchased a stock of Plywood to be sent to Ranminitenna to renovate the structures. It is this reason that has resulted in the cinema village now being called Plywood.

Former Media Ministry Secretary W.B. Ganegala who also earned large sums of monies from the project has now had to retire and Dissanayake and Balasuriya are now trying to blame various officials and contractors for the current situation.
