The producer of the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation’s live commentaries of the Test series against Pakistan has reportedly misused the official vehicle given to him.

During the Pallekele Test match coverage alone, the vehicle had covered 986 kilometres, according to SLBC sources.

What had happened there was that at the end of each day’s commentaries, the vehicle had been use to travel to the Matale home of the commentator.

Not only that, the vehicle was also used in the funeral of a relative of the commentator’s wife.

At the Test in Suriyawewa too, the SLBC producer had misused the vehicle given to him.

However, two top officers of the corporation, one of them a woman, are trying to cover up this misuse of an official vehicle, but given a totally unreasonable order that the excess expense be deducted from the driver’s payments.

There are many such irregularties and injustices taking place in the SLBC, but its chairman, who is digging up ‘garbage heaps’ around the country, is turning a blind eye to what was happening under his very nose, say its employees.
