The distribution of the magazine called “Chitrapata” (Film) has been stopped due to a review published on the Kusa Pabha film. Themagazine is a publication of the National Film Corporation. A large number of magazine copies that have not been distributed are currently locked up in a room at the Corporation.
The magazine that has been banned is the first to be printed in 2012. The magazine was to be recently distributed after giving ample publicity.
However, sources from the Corporation say the sudden decision to suspend the distribution of the magazine was due to a review published about the Kusa Pabha film. The reason for the clamp down on the magazine is due to the criticism of the movie and the Rajapaksa government in the article written by one Ranjith Perera.
“Weren’t the viewers gotten to the cinema to watch the movie through blatant use of state patronage? Doesn’t this group that is creating a massive outbreak of spectators have close links with the political-military complex that is governing the country? Hasn’t this group received the ability of choosing all the cinemas in the country to show their movie and create a massive propaganda campaign to distribute the production since they are directly affiliated to the current political-military complex,” the writer has stated. Due to such content in the article, the head of the Corporation has locked down the magazines on a directive received from a higher office.
