Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has ordered heads of the defence units to immediately arrest Premakumar Gunarathnam alias Kumar, who is an internal leader of the JVP, and to kill him. Members of the intelligence units have met with several JVP leaders and gathered information about Kumar.

The Defence Secretary has said that Kumar Gunarathnam had links with the international community and could therefore be threat in the future.

The defence establishment had kept a close watch on Kumar Gunarathnam following information given by JVP defector Wimal Weerawansa and his group. Kumar had then traveled overseas and participated in party affairs from out of the country.

Wimal Weerawnasa’s group has informed the Defence Secretary that Kumar has returned to the country following the ideological clash in the JVP.
