Internal Trade Minister Johnston Fernando, who has brought over V FM, has discussed with the Director General of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC), Anusha Pelpita to give him a Rs. 20 million bribe to get two more radio frequencies allocated to the radio station.

Secretary of the Sri Lanka Rugby Football Union (SLRFU), Rizly Iliyas also known as Money Laundering Dida, who is closely affiliated to the Minister, has discussed on giving the bribe on behalf of the Minister.

However, Pelpita has not responded positively to the proposal.

The TRC is preparing a national policy on the allocation of frequencies that is to come into effect from August 1st 2012.

Authorities would then give a limited number of island wide frequencies to the radio stations instead of a large number of frequencies that have been allocated at present.

Therefore, Anusha Pelpita has made arrangements to give one island wide frequency to V FM instead of the 107.6, 100.4 and 104 radio frequencies that cover various parts of the country.

Money Laundering Dida had met Pelpita and discussed on behalf of the Minister whether V FM could be given three island wide frequencies when the existing three frequencies are scrapped with the introduction of the national policy.

Money Laundering Dida has also told Pelpita that eh could be given a sum of Rs. 20 million for making the necessary arrangements.

It is also learnt that Pelpita has received commissions worth millions of rupees in the construction of the Lotus Tower and that he has invested the monies in the Colombo Stock Exchange.
