Diplomats and friends of Sri Lanka alike have commended the Sri Lanka government for its well-advised decision to appoint one of the emerging stars of the professional diplomatic service, Mr. M.R.K Lenagala, as the next Deputy High Commissioner to the UK.

Mr. Lenagala, the current Minister Counsellor (Political Affairs) is a highly regarded diplomat, who has served as the personal secretary to three former distinguished Foreign Ministers, namely Lakshman Kadirgamar, Anura Bandaranaike and Mangala Samaraweera.

Political analysts are of the view that his promotion as one of extremely rare wise moves by the Rajapaksa administration, which has been filling all Sri Lankan missions with Rajapaksa relatives, political goons and relatives of the ministers.

Mr. Lenagala, who  has previously served in Sri Lanka’s UN Mission in New York, is also a trusted regular member of President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s entourage to UN General Assembly.

He succeeds Mr. PM Amza, who was transferred to Germany as the Deputy Ambassador. It was  earlier reported that Dr Kokila Ranawaka, wife of Dr. Ajith Ranawaka was to succeed Mr. Amza.

LankaNewsWeb takes this opportunity to wish Mr. Lenagala a successful term as the second-most senior diplomat in one of the most important Sri Lankan missions in the West.
