SSP Vass Gunawardena who is in charge of the Kurunegala Divison is currently receiving medical treatment after he had consumed poison following a personal dispute with the head of the Presidential Security Division (PSD) Senior DIG S.N. Wickremasinghe, sources from the Police Headquarters said.

The conflict had been a result of the Presidential Security Head’s interference in Vass Gunawradena’s personal life.

DIG Wickremasinghe is a well know Romeo in the Presidential staff and has even used his powers to initiate clandestine affairs with wives of some police officers. Senior police officers who have suffered such fates have resorted to keep quiet without making a complaint due to the fear that the DIG might at some point be appointed as the IGP.

The DIG is also being protected by UPFA MP Sajin Vass Gunawardena, who attends to the needs of the Presidential Secretary, Head of Presidential Staff, Gamini Senarath and even the President.

Police officers who are aware of the DIG’s immoral behavior have ensured that their wives and daughters are not seen by DIG Wickremasinghe.

However, SSP Vass Gunawardena being pushed to consume poison has brought about dissention among police personnel at the Police Headquarters against DIG Wickremasinghe’s immoral actions.
