UPFA MP Duminda Silva also known as Kudu Duminda after getting the help of the Defence Secretary to murder underworld leader Navy Asanga, has now solicited the help of underworld leader Navy Ruwan for election work in Colombo for the forthcoming local government election. Navy Ruwan it is learnt was one of Navy Asanga’s disciples.

Navy Ruwan has been assigned the task of suppressing and launching operations against the Muslim community and the UNP and JVP activists in Colombo.

Whenever Navy Ruwan had been arrested by the police on previous occasions, Kudu Duminda had intervened and secured his release.

Reliable sources say that the plan was to murder Navy Ruwan after the election campaign.

A large number of underworld members who have worked for politicians have been assassinated by the security forces on requests made by the respective politicians. The underworld members have been murdered in order to prevent details of the crimes committed by them being released to the public.

A close confidante of recently assassinated Navy Asanga’s family told us that following his death, the politicians who constantly kept in touch with Asanga were ignoring his family.

According to him, Navy Asanga was a resident of Panagoda. He had joined the Navy in 1997 due to the financial difficulties faced by the family. He had obtained a good knowledge of weapons and their use while serving as a good Navy soldier. When the Navy post where Asanga was stationed was attacked by the LTTE, the Navy soldiers at the post were killed except for Asanga and another soldier.

Asanga and his colleague have traveled through thick jungles for months and had managed to save their lives. Asanga’s family members have prevented him from returning to the Navy due to bitter experience faced by him.

He was therefore arrested as a deserter and had later resigned from the Navy.

It was in such a backdrop that he had met Navy Ruwan and started to carry out contracts for the underworld. Kudu Duminda had given many underworld assignments to them.
