  Former deputy minister Chandana Kathriarachchi, who was released from murder charged by President Mahinda Rajapaksa, had been paid a salary arrears of Rs. 162,000 by the Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) for holding the post of a port port coordinator.
 
An illegal financial institution supported by the Central Bank collects Rs. 2,200 million form depositors

  CIFL Finance and Asset Company has collected Rs. 2.2 billion from 3761 depositors since 2006 and has failed to pay any interest for the monies and has not returned the monies to the depositors as well. Although depositors have been complaining about the matter to the Central Bank since 2009, no action has been taken.

  A senior Finance Ministry official told Lanka News Web that the Colombo Stock Exchange (SEC) is facing the risk of crashing in the near future due to the artificial manipulation of the stock market by a few racketeers wielding political powers in order to make unwarranted gains.
