IMF Executive Board Completes Fifth Review Under the Stand-By Arrangement for Sri Lanka and Approves US$216.6 Million Disbursement
The Executive Board of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) today completed the fifth review of Sri Lanka's economic performance under a program supported by a Stand-By Arrangement (SBA). The completion of the review enables the immediate disbursement of an amount equivalent to SDR 137.8 million (about US$216.6 million), bringing total disbursements under the arrangement to an amount equivalent to SDR 964.6 million (about US$1.516 billion).
Lankapuvath says Mangala is spreading rumours about the President suffering from cancer
The state owned Lankapuvath website has reported in one of its main stories that the rumour about President Mahinda Rajapaksa suffering from a cancer is being spread by the UNP Communication Division Head Mangala Samaraweera and the Editorial Director of Sri Lanka Mirror website, Ruwan Ferdinands.

The arson attack on the Lanka E News office is a deplorable continuation of the series of attacks on media establishments and personnel who have been critical of the government in their outlook. In the past few years there have been a regular pattern of attacks that have included the murder and disappearance of senior journalists and physical attacks on them and on media establishments. In January last year, a senior journalist of Lanka E News, Prageeth Ekneligoda, disappeared without a trace which lends credence to the specific targeting of this media institution.

Lawyers for Democracy (LfD) is shocked with the attack and destruction of the Lanka e News premises in the early hours of 31st January 2011. This is one among a long list of events where media institutions and individuals have come under attack in the last few years, and another one in a post war context. Lanka e News has been under constant attacks in recent years with its editor having to leave Sri Lanka due to threats and Prageeth Ekneligoda, a cartoonist with the institution, disappearing on 24th January 2010. The present attack comes just a few days after the one year anniversary was marked for Ekneligoda's disappearance, a case that remains unresolved.
Complaint made on Appeal Court judge for non payment of dues
One D.P. Chitrasena residing at 65/2 Adihena Road, Gothatuwa has in writing complained to Chief Justice Ashoka de Silva and the Judicial Services Commission that Appeal Court Judge Sarath de Abrew had paid him a sum of Rs. 17,683,227.31 and got him to complete the construction of a house at 4/1 Attidiya Road, Ratmalana and was now avoiding the payment of the remaining Rs. 2,373,622.44 using the powers of his office.
