They have decided that such a massive protest would uplift the image of UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe and would undermine the great response received by Sajith at the party convention.
Sajith's group reject Malik's proposal to temporarily take over the party's deputy leadership
The proposal by former UNP Chairman Malik Samarawickrema to the Sajith Premadasa faction to allow Ranil Wickremesinghe to continue in the party leadership for another two years and for Sajith to temporarily take over the party's deputy leadership with powers, has been rejected by the main committee of the Sajith faction.

A special meeting has been held between deputy minister Sarath Gunaratene and Pulasthi Jayasinghe, a senior official at Sri Lankan Air Lines today at deputy minister’s residence at Seththapaduwa.
