UNP condemns decision to imprison Fonseka – Parliamentarian Mangala Samaraweera

Head of UNP's media unit, parliamentarian Mangala Samaraweera said the UNP condemned the President's decision to imprison former Army Commander for a period of 30 months and that the party did not accept the verdict of the second court martial . He said the UNP would launch a campaign locally and internationally calling for Fonseka's release.
President's Media Secretary Vijayananda Herath told the media that the President has endorsed a 30 month rigorous imprisonment for former Army Commander Sarath Fonseka following the recommendations of the second court martial on September 17.
The UNP Leader has handed over the official UNP website, unp.lk, to one of the party's assistant secretaries and former parliamentarian Sagala Ratnayake to maintain it, sources from Sirikotha said.
