Minister Weerawansa had ended the fast after President makes four promises

  NFF media spokesperson and Chairman of the National Housing Development Authority, Jayantha Samaraweera said that Minister Wimal Weerawnasa had stopped the fast unto death after three days following four promises made by the President.

Samaraweera told the media that the NFF leader had stopped the fast following agreements reached between himself and Ministers Susil Premajayantha, Dullas Alahapperuma and Anurra Priyadharshana Yapa. He said that the President had promise through the ministers that he would not permit any of the soldiers who fought in the war against terrorism to go before the panel appointed by the UN Secretary General to look into war crimes allegations.
 
Army Hospital reveals that Minister Weerawansa had consumed light food during fast unto death

  A doctor at the Army Hospital told Lanka News Web that Minister Wimal Weerawansa had consumed light food like biscuits, vitamins and a small amount of water during his fast unto death that lasted fro three days.

He said that Wimal’s kidneys were weak and would have therefore faced a serious condition had he not consumed at least a little water.
 
Minister Wimal Weerawansa’s mother passes away

  Minister Wimal Weerawansa’s mother, W. Somy Nona, had passed away on Saturday (10) night. She had been admitted to the Colombo National Hospital for treatment two weeks ago.

A spokesperson of the NFF said that the remains would be taken to Minister Weerawansa’s official residence at Stanmore Crescent, Colombo 7.

Funeral arrangements are to be notified later.
 
Impeachment motion against judge

  The United National Party is currently exploring the possibility of bringing forth an impeachment motion against Supreme Court judge Dr. Shirani Bandaranayake, it is learnt.

When inquired, UNP General Secretary Tissa Attanayake said that the party was discussing the rulings recently delivered by Bandaranayake, whose husband is a close confidante of the President and is the Chairman of the National Savings Bank.
 
Complaint against Radaliyagoda for making death threats

  A newspaper agent has complained to the Wellampitiya police that UPFA Kurunegala District electoral organizer, defeated UPFA Colombo District candidate at the last general election and Deputy Director General at ITN, Sudarman Radaliyagoda had threatened to kill him while flashing a pistol.

The complaint was lodged on July 7th and it states that if anything were to happen to the complainant’s life, Radaliyagoda would be responsible for it.
 
No leads yet in Prageeth’s case

  Police spokesperson SP Preshantha Jayakody says that while investigations are still ongoing with regard to missing journalist Prageeth Eknaligoda, there have been no leads yet.

Prageeth went missing on January 24th and the police have been inquiring into the incident for the past six months and Jayakody said the police is yet to find a lead in the investigations.
 
Namal appoints supervisory MPs to the Wanni

  In order to secure the governing party’s victory at the Northern Provincial Council election, a group of seven UPFA MPs are currently engaged in coordinating the development work in the Wanni and Kilinochchi Districts under the supervision of UPFA parliamentarian Namal Rajapaksa.

The supervisory MPs are Lohan Ratwatte, Dilum Amunugama, Duminda Silva, Tharanath Basnayake, Roshan Ranasinghe, Kanaka Herath and Udith Lokubandara.
 
Gotabhaya to oversee work of the Presidential Secretary

  The President has appointed Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa as the acting Presidential Secretary until Lalith Weeratunge returns from an overseas trip.

The appointment had been made through Gazette Extraordinary No. 1660/31 published on June 29th.
 
Kovils in the East removed after claiming them to be unauthorized structures

  TNA Batticaloa District parliamentarian D. Yogeswaran told a group of journalists on the 7th that the government has forcible taken away two Hindu kovils in Trincomalee and that the Army had taken charge of one kovil in Batticaloa.

Yogeswaran has said that the religious leaders at the kovils had informed him that the authorities had presented fake documents claiming them to be unauthorized structures before demolishing them.

  NFF Spokesperson and former parliamentarian Mohomad Musammil has said that the fast unto death commenced by NFF Leader and Minister Wimal Weerawansa as a mark of protest against the panel of experts on Sri Lanka appointed by UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon would only be called off if there is a court order to do or a special Presidential request.

‘Fast unto death’ minister goes home for dinner

  Housing Minister Wimal Weerawansa, who is on a ‘fast unto death’ campaign in front of the UN compound in Colombo has been transported to a secret location few times late Thursday night, LankaNewsWeb exclusively learns.

He was seen taken away in a jeep –thought to be one of his ministerial vehicles – late at night after the journalists and crowds dispersed.

It was not known where he was taken to or whether he was given food or drinks. But his spokesman, Dr. Wasantha Bandara, told journalists on Friday that the minister’s condition is getting deteriorated.

 
Income of cricketers from 2003 till 2009 handed over to Inland Revenue Department

  Sri Lanka Cricket has handed over files containing details about the incomes earned by senior cricketers from 2003 till 2009 to the Inland Revenue Department.

It is learnt that after the files were handed over to the Department officials are currently planning to file cases against senior cricketers to investigate their personal accounts.

It is also learnt that cricketers Sanath Jayasuriya, Muttaiah Muralitharan, Chaminda Vaas, Mahela Jayawardena, Kumar Sangakkara, Thilekaratne Dilshan, Marvan Atapattu and Russel Arnold are to be subjected to an inquiry by Inland Revenue officials.
 
Auditor General prepares to investigate plight of the missing Rs. 4,000 lakhs at Sri Lanka Cricket

  The help of a computer software engineer has been sought to delete data in computers following an audit initiated by the Auditor General to find what happened to a sum of Rs. 4,000 that had gone missing at Sri Lanka Cricket.

Sri Lanka Cricket sources said that the Auditor General has requested for details of accounts of Ajith Jayasekera, Nishantha Ranatunge, Ashley de Silva, Suraj Dandeniya, Kapila Dandeniya, Anurudhdha Polonnovita and Ruwan Gallage from the Sri Lanka Cricket financial administration unit.

Wimal ends fast unto death after drinking water from President’s hand

  National Freedom Front (NFF) and Housing, Construction and Engineering Minister Wimal Weerawansa was taken to the Army Hospital today (10) after he ended the fast unto death outside the UN Office in Colombo.

Weerawansa launched a fast unto death demanding the withdrawal of the panel of experts on Sri Lanka appointed by UN Secretary General ban Ki-moon.
