A Sri Lankan living in South Hampton told Lanka News Web that Colonel Ratnayake from the Commando Force performs duties as the body guard and cook to the President’s son Yoshitha Rajapaksa, who is studying at the South Hampton Royal Naval University.
Yoshitha Rajapaksa is studying at the South Hampton Royal Naval University after former Nay Commander Wasantha Karannagoda gave him the scholarship in violation of regulations of the Sri Lanka Navy. This Lieutenant Colonel has been assigned to Yoshitha to attend to his needs while in the UK. |

NFF Leader parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa’s children who were to be the flower girl and page boy at a wedding scheduled to be held in Weliveriya in January will not be able to attend the wedding as the family has planned to travel overseas during the period.
Wimal Weerawansas wife had informed the respective family that the children would not be able to attend the wedding as the family was planning to go overseas soon after the election, Lanka News Web learns. |

The President it is learnt is forcing cricketer Muttaiah Muralitharan to participate in the line of advertisements produced by the Tharunyata Hetak Organization in Sinhala, Tamil and English. The advertisements have been produced with the participation of well known artistes and sports personalities.
Muralitharan had informed the leaders of Tharunyata Hetak Organization that he had a policy of not taking part in any political activity. However, the President had then personally called him and requested that he participate din the advertisement. |

SLFP (M) Wing Leader Mangala Samaraweera says that the President’s eldest son Namal Rajapaksa has overtaken Basil Rajapaksa also known as Mr. 10% in the business world and is now being known Master 10% and a racketeer.

With the recent outbreak of dengue in Vauniya, number of patients getting admitted to Vavuniya Base Hospital has increased. But their lives are in danger with lack of adequate facilities there. Medical ward of Vauniya hospital has only 70 beds. However there are about 250 inpatients, out of which about 170 patients are ill with dengue. Critically ill patients suffer without beds. So far about 12 patients have died of dengue.
In the meantime the paediatric ward has only about 80 beds, at present around 325 children are been treated there. Though the Vavuniya Hospital is a base hospital, it has only one paediatrician to look after more than 300 patients. There is a shortage for about 20 doctors and 50 nurses. Namal Rajapaksa it is reliably learnt has received Rs. 500 million to extend the contract between Orient Lanka Company, which holds the monopoly in selling liquor, perfumes and chocolates at the Katunayake International Airport, and the government by a further five year period.

A key figure among the Tamil Diaspora in London told Lanka News Web that TNA parliamentarian, M.K. Sivajilingam has come forward to contest the Presidential election according to a contract given to him by Basil Rajapaksa.
The spokesperson said that Sivajilingam has decided to contest the election following a proposal by Basil when he intervened in a personal legal issue related to the TNA parliamentarian. However, he said the Tamil Diaspora in London would not support Sivajilingam’s candidature. |

Opposition and UNP Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe recently appointed Attorney Shiral Lakthileka as the chief organizer of the party for the Kotte electorate.
He is a graduate from the Law faculty of the Colombo University. He has also received degrees in international law and conflict resolution from Arcadia and Temple Universities in Philadelphia in the US.
He worked as an advisor to the Constitutional Affairs Ministry during the UNF government and played a key role in trying to introduce a new Constitution at the time. |

Several employees at the Labor and Manpower Ministry have been assigned to Labor Minister Mervyn Silva’s work force from December 17, 2009 till December 27, 2009 on an order issued by Silva on December 14, 2009.

The Fire Brigade Unit at the Kotte Urban Council has been converted into a UPFA office. The unit was located in Nawala and it has now been converted into the UPFA election office in Kotte after removing all fire extinguishing equipment and vehicles in the office premises.
Minister Rohitha Bogollagama reportedly carried out all propaganda work related to the President’s election campaign from this venue. Residents in the area have expressed shock at the manner in which the governing party was openly misusing public property. They have also expressed concern over the removal of the Fire Brigade Unit from the area as they would be faced with great difficulties if a fire erupted in the area. |

Several members of the UNP Democratic Group and S.B. Dissanayake it is learnt have had a secret discussion to decide on how best they could build their demanding powers during the next general election after ensuring President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s victory at the Presidential election.

The Media Watch organization says that meals organized at Temple Trees cost over Rs. 20 lakhs per day. A massive cost has been incurred on liquor served during evening functions apart from the expenses on serving breakfast and lunch.
Meals for these functions are catered by Sen Saal in Battaramulla and Fingara in Rattanapitiya.
These institutions supply food on credit. The Presidential Secretariat is already in debt to these institutions to the tune of several millions of rupees. |

Sources from Temple Trees say that senior ministers have objected to a decision by Basil Rajapaksa to summon them to the fourth floor of Temple Trees and later treat them in a degrading manner.
Basil’s National Election Operations Center is situated on the fourth floor of the five storey office building at Temple Trees.
Basil’s staff it is learnt had requested these minister who have been appointed as district representatives at the Presidential election to come to the office to sign some documents. The security personnel at the building had prevented the ministers from using the elevator in the building claiming it was reserved for Basil. |
