Foreign Ministry sources said that Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama has requested the President to grant a Presidential pardon to journalist J.S. Tissainayagam, who has been sentenced to 20 years rigorous imprisonment.
Many foreign diplomats and international organizations have called the Foreign Minister and requested the government to look at the matter in a humane perspective, as the sentence of rigorous imprisonment passed on Tissainayagam yesterday (31) was unjust.
Also, the Presidential Secretariat and the Foreign Ministry had received many fax messages objecting to the court verdict delivered on the Tissainayagam case. |
