Editor of the Observer newspaper and the Sports Editor of the Daily News newspaper of the state owned Lake House, Dinseh Weerawansa has suspended the services of two Daily News journalists in order to go for the Olympics.
Daily News Sports Editor Dinesh Weerawansa and two journalists of the newspaper working on a contract bases, Chris Dabare and Bernard Perera have applied to the Sri Lanka Olympics Committee for permission to cover the event.
However, the Sri Lanka Olympic Committee has decided not to grant permission to journalists who have covered the event earlier and have decided instead to give the opportunity to newcomers. Therefore, Dinesh Weerawansa’s name had been slashed since he had covered the event on several occasions.
A head of the Sri Lanka Olympic Committee had informed Weerawansa that his application could be considered if there were no others from the Daily News.
Weerawansa has immediately cancelled the contracts of the two journalists who have applied for permission to cover the event, Chris Dabare and Bernard Perera.
