Army Dance for Army bigwigs amidst suffering of soldiers in Kilinochchi

Army Commander Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya has made arrangements to hold an Army Dance 2011 for Army officers holding offices above the rank of Major and their wives. The dance is scheduled to be held to coincide with the Army Day in October.
The Army Commander’s wife Anjalika Jayasuriya is organizing the dance. She has assigned the head of the mechanical infantry unit Major General Milinda Peiris to coordinate matter related to the dance.
A special competition was held at the Rock House Army camp in Modera to choose the couples that would attend the dance. All officers holding ranks above major in the regiments have been ordered by the Army Commander to attend the dinner with their spouse. Each officer who would attend the dance has to pay Rs. 2,500.
Twenty couples had been chosen for to dance doubles and are to participate in the dancing tournament to be held at Hilton Colombo.
The officers who have been chosen to dance have to buy a ticket for Rs. 7,500.
A senior Army officer at the Army Headquarters said that when the Commander was organizing ballroom dances, soldiers serving in Kilinochchi and other areas in the North are facing many difficulties including a shortage of drinking water.
