The Resettlement Ministry has reportedly not taken steps to pay Rs. 140 million due to the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) as payment for the Menik Farm electricity bills.
Resettlement Ministry Secretary, B.M.U.D. Basnayake when inquired said that there was no great change that would take place by the payment of electricity bills as the monies would only be transferred from ministry to another.
He said that the electricity provided to a special project like Menik Farm could not be disconnected by the CEB in the manner in which it disconnects power to houses that fail to pay high electricity bills.
Lanka Viduli Sevaka Sangamaya Secretary Ranjan Jayalal said that this was a common scenario in the country and that the board was yet to receive monies for illuminating areas in Colombo for religious activities on Defence Ministry orders.
He added that the government usually charges the monies spent in this manner through the public.
Attempts made by Ravaya to contact CEB Chairman Wimaladharma Abeywickrema failed.
