Tamil civilian killed in Kalpitiya following attack by military

A Tamil civilian who had sustained severe injuries during an attack on villagers from Ilathandiya in Puttalam by a group of military personnel has succumbed to his injuries. The deceased is 33 year old Perumal Sivakumar.
He has been suffering from a long standing heart ailment.
The military had brutally assaulted the villagers from Ilathandiya when they had taken to the streets last week in protest against the Grease Devil. Although Perumal was immediately admitted to the Puttalam Hospital for treatment he had succumbed to his injuries on the 23rd.
However, a senior officer from the Kalpitiya naval base has asked the hospital authorities to state that the death was due to a heart ailment.
Perumal’s eldest daughter had come of age recently and the celebrations were to be held the on the 25th.
It is learnt that many youth from Ilathandiya have fled the area to escape being harassed by the military personnel.
