  Three leading ministers provide safe heaven for drug peddlers

  The Police intelligence report have revealed that several politicians including Minister Mervin Silva, Deputy Minister Neomal Perera and the Monitoring MP Minister of Defense Duminda Silva providing safe haven for leading drug peddlers in the country.

Therefore, the new IGP K.N Illangakoon is in a state of a quandary what sort of action to take against these drug peddlers, a senior officer attached to the police department told the Lanka News Web.

Police chief after assuming duty called for all intelligence reports relating to illegal drug
  business from the Special Police Unit, Narcotic Bureau and from the Special Task Force.

The intelligence reports have revealed that drugs being transport to North Western Province coastal areas from India. Further some come into the country via Colombo Port from Pakistan and Katunayake airport from other countries.

The intelligence reports also raveled one of the kingpins by the name of “Ward Palce Siam” has been imposed the death sentenced by the Sri Lanka court is now serving prison term involve in several dealers operating in Pakistan and another person called Kibbula Alle Hune who is also serving prison terms in a South Indian prison.

According to Police reports that more than 750 kg of heroin and other dangerous drugs are coming into Sri Lanka every year out of which only 35 kg to 40 kg being taken into police custody.

However, Police are normally taken drugs in to custody from dealers who are operating in streets. To curb the drug menace main traffickers should be taken to the custody unless otherwise it cannot stop drugs coming into the country. It is reported that more than 750 kg of drugs reach Sri Lanka for a year.

On March 10 of this year Neomal Pereira’s coordinating secretary was taken into the custody in Chilaw while possession of 40 kg and 15 gram of heroine. Further when Police questioned this particular person on 10.12. 2010, they were able to take another 34 kg and 17 gram into custody from Fort area.

This year Police made the biggest raid in their history and took “Kudu Lalaith” into the Police custody possession of heroin amounting 7 kg and 12 grams. When the Police questioned him he had revealed that was given by another dealer “Japan Chooty”. When the police investigate telephone conversations and details reports it was found that Duminda Silva had a direct link to the drug business.

It is said that this menace cannot be controlled by producing culprits before the court of law.
