Orders not to sing the national anthem in Tamil
Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa has asked heads of defence establishments to ensure that the national anthem is not sung in Tamil at events attended by the President and him.
The Defence Secretary had issued the directive saying that the President had been angered after hearing the national anthem being sung in Tamil at an event attended by him in a Tamil school in Colombo.
A senior official from the National Languages and Social Integration Ministry said that the Ministry had learnt about the directive issued by the Defence Secretary. He added that the minister in-charge of the portfolio, Vasudeva Nanayakkara was disgruntled over the move.
