  Intelligence unit informants among the protesting Katunayake workers

2011-06-13
  A group of officers attached to the army and navy intelligence units have been among the protesting workers in Katunayake when the clash had occurred, sources from the Police Headquarters said.

The CID officers inquiring into the incident had got down video recordings made by media personnel at the scene of the protest in Katunayake and when inspecting the video footage, they had identified several army and navy intelligence members among the crowd.

Further inquiries had revealed that some of the intelligence unit members who were injured during the clash had received treatment from
  private hospitals.

The CID has informed the Defence Ministry of their finding. A senior official at the Defence Ministry has asked the head of the CID not to include the finding in any report and to not reveal any such information to the media.
