2011-06-12
Intelligence officers attached to the Prisons Department have been assigned to provide security to Sarath Fonseka and the normal jailors who provide security to other prisoners are no longer assigned to Fonseka, sources from the Prison Department said.
Sources said that a list of names of the Prison officials who provide security to Fonseka when he is taken to courts for the cases field against him, has to be sent to the Defence Secretary for approval every week.
The Prison officials affiliated to the intelligence unit who are now providing security to Fonseka have joined the Prison Department about a year ago.
Media Spokesperson of the Prison Department Ashoka Hapuarachchi said that although details about prison officials who provide security are not given to the Defence Ministry, in the case of Fonseka, intelligence unit officials have been assigned to provide tight security.
