2011-03-29
UNP Colombo District Leader and head of the party’s international affairs, Ravi Karunanayake has informed party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe that he was ready to accept the post of National Organizer of the UNP, a senior official from the party headquarters, Sirikotha said. The agreement had been reached following a telephone conversation between Karunanayake and Wickremesinghe last night.
The duties and powers of the National Organizer post have also been discussed at length last night.
The official said the party leadership is looking at offering a different position to UNP MP Ranjith Madduma Bandara after appointing Karunanayake as the National Organizer.
Madduma Bandara’s name was also proposed to the post of National Organizer at the party’s Working Committee meeting yesterday (28) and the party leaders assigned the task of deciding on the appointment to an advisory committee saying the appointment needed to be made after reaching a consensus.
The official denied certain media reports that UNP MP Mangala Samaraweera was going to come forward for the post of National Organizer and
said that Samaraweera had also agreed to Wickremesinghe’s decision to appoint Karunanayake as the party’s National Organizer.
