2011-03-28
The Appeal Court today granted bail to Sarath Fonseka’s private secretary Retired Captain Senaka Silva after being held in jail for 408 days. Silva was charged of receiving the services of Army soldiers for Sarath Fonseka after he had retired from active service and providing them with a monthly salary and lodging facilities and for making them anti-Rajapaksa.

The state counsel had said there were no objections for granting bail when Silva’s bail application was taken up for hearing today.

The Court has granted bail for Rs. 100,000 and had taken hold of Silva’s passport asking him not
to leave the country. Silva had been ordered to report to the OIC of the CID ever last Sunday of the month.

The Appeal Court judges had also asked the petitioners to present the bail order to the High Court for appropriate action. Silva’s lawyers have decided to present the bail order to the High Court tomorrow.

Silva was arrested at the same time Fonseka was taken into custody.
