WHAT'S HOT IN SRI LANKA

Sajith's group plans an operation to surround Sirikotha and oust Ranil after the local government elections

2011-02-16
The group supportive of Sajith Premadasa has planned to bring down thousands of party members to Colombo to surround the party headquarters Sirikotha soon after the local government election results are released and to commence a continuous sathyagraha calling on Ranil Wickremesinghe to step down from the party leadership and to appoint Sajith as the leader.

Reliable sources said that several rounds of discussions have been held on the matter. It is also learnt that the Defence Secretary and several government seniors have also given their support to the move.
The initial propaganda work related to the operation has already commenced. Media Spokesperson of the group, Lal Perera yesterday told a press conference at the group's national organizer Bodhi Ranasinghe's office that if Ranil Wickremesinghe did not step down from the party leadership by April 12, steps would be taken to oust him from the post.

He said that the main aim of the group was to oust the head of state like in Egypt and as the first step towards it, they would oust Ranil Wickremesinghe from the post of Opposition Leader.
