Land in Eladumaduval, which has been identified as a high securityzone (HSZ) in Jaffna, has reportedly been sold to a leading Sinhala businessman after evicting 387 families that were resettled in the area.
A 100 acer land in the Eladumaduval HSZ has been sold and 387 resettled families have been evicted claiming the area has not been properly de-mined. Although it was said these families would once again be resettled in the are after a month, the land had been sold before the lapse of the one month period.
Jaffna District Secretary Emilda Sukumar said there were no state lands in the area and that Eladumaduval South was still part of the HSZ.
She said that such a private transaction may have taken place since rich Tamil businessmen owned lands in the area.
