Some in Sajith's group unhappy with his decision to give up battle for leadership

Some of the members in Sajith Premadasa's group who have openly said that Sajith would take over the party leadership before the local government elections are displeased with Sajith's decision to postpone his claim for the party leadership until the conclusion of the elections, it is learnt.
They believe that Sajith would not make a claim for the party leadership for a while due to his astrology and the fact that some outsiders were manipulating him.
An official from the Opposition Leader's Office at Cambridge Terrace told us that it is learnt that
Sajith had decided to stop the battle for the party leadership only till the conclusion of the local government elections. He said the plan is to stage a coup against party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe in the event the party is defeated at the local government elections.
In this backdrop, the UNP leader has appointed deputy leader Karu Jayasuriya to head the party's local government elections campaign and has decided to participate in at least one meeting in every electorate.
Sajith's group meanwhile has decided to hold 2,000 meetings with Karu Jayasuriya.
