| UNP MP Ranjan Ramanayaka told Parliament today that foreign employment agencies that are blacklisted by the Foreign Employment Bureau open up in different names with the same staff members and continue with their illegal operations.
“The agency that sent Rizana Nafeek to Saudi Arabia got a forged birth certificate to increase her age and sent her.So far we have not blacklisted the agency that sent Rizana. When we went to Saudi Arabia to plead for her life the Saudi authorities told us “ why don’t you change the laws in your country without trying to change the “Sharia law’ in our country,” he told Parliament.
Mr. Ramanayaka said the government must tighten the laws here so that the innocent women who go abroad for employment don’t suffer. |
