WHAT'S HOT IN SRI LANKA

Heladiva shut down to remove Dharmasri

2010-02-16
The Heladiva newspaper that was being published to promote the image of NFF Leader Wimal Weerawansa had reportedly been closed down to remove its Editor, Dharmasri Kariyawasam.
The decision to close down the newspaper it is learnt has been due to the anger Wimal had against Dharmasri for refusing to publish an article about an allegedly illicit affair General Sarath Fonseka was having with an actress without any proof.

Finally a decision was made to temporarily close down the newspaper since there was no way to remove Dharmasri without any proper reason and due to the support he enjoyed among the editorial staff.

Heladiva is owned by one of Wimal’s close confidantes Japan Saman, who is allegedly involved in importing stolen vehicles from Japan to Sri Lanka.

The newspaper is printed and distributed by Sayuri Publishers.
Meanwhile, it is also learnt that the newspaper was printed at the Divaina press before it was shut down.

During this period, articles have reportedly been published in the newspaper even after the Editor had passed the final pages.

However, we earlier reported that the newspaper was engaged in a “do or die” mission before the Presidential election.

The newspaper it is learnt is to re-commence operations in early March.
