Actor Senaka Wijesinghe who coordinated the advertisements where popular artists and sports personalities express their support to the President on behalf of the Tharunyata Hetak Organization has reportedly misappropriated several lakhs from the funds allocated for the project. The advertisements are currently being telecast on state media channels free of charge.
Senaka Wijesinghe was once affiliated to the JVP and is currently an advisor to Tharunyata Hetak.
He had taken a sum of Rs. 15 lakhs to pay for each artist and sports personality who appeared for the advertisements. However, he had paid
only between Rs. 15,000 and Rs. 5 lakhs to each participant. While super stars were paid Rs. 5 lakhs each, some were paid only Rs. 15,000.
The advertisements were prepared by the advertising agency belonging to the Kalpage brothers. The agency had organized a get together with these artists at the Water’s Edge and had received a sum of Rs. 15 lakhs from Tharunyata Hetak for it.
