Chief of Defence Staff General Sarath Fonseka on Tuesday (29) visited the BMICH to supervise the organizing of the exhibition to mark the 60th anniversary of the Sri Lanka Army.
The exhibition will show the 60 year old history of the Sri Lanka Army and the exhibition will be open to the public from October 3-7. Weapons recovered from the LTTE will also be on display at the exhibition.
Although General Fonseka requested the President to allow him to remain the Army Chief till the conclusion of the 60th anniversary of the Sri Lanka Army, which will be the first celebration after the defeat of the LTTE, the request was ignored and he was asked to assume duties of the Chief of Defence Staff.
However, General Fonseka has intervened to ensure that the 60th anniversary celebrations of the Sri Lanka Army is held on a grand scale and has organized religious events to coincide with the other celebrations.
