It has been revealed that a fraud amounting to millions of rupees had taken place when importing a printer for Lake House. It is reported that the printer that has been imported from an American company at a sum of US$ 1,062,000, which is higher than the actual amount of the respective printer.

In an earlier occasion the Company had tried to import a printer at a cost of Rs. 64 million and had even paid an advance of Rs. 500 lakhs. However, the transaction could not continue any further due to the financial crisis faced by Lake House at the time and the advance money was a loss to the institution.
The wrong information regarding the printer had been give by the local agent of the American firm, who is also the brother of Lake House Financial Director, Shanmuganathan.

Although Lake House needs a newspaper printing machine, the new machine is to be imported to print an order from Sri Lanka Telecom to print its directories.

However, Lake House is yet to officially receive the order.
Workers allege that the Rs. 50 million paid initially and the second payment of Rs. 100 million have swelled the wallets of a few officials at Lake House. Trade unions have requested Media Minister Anura Priyadarshana Yapa to immediately hold an inquiry into the matter.
