JVP sources say the UNP leadership has agreed to the proposal presented by the JVP to put forward a common opposition candidate at the next Presidential election with stern conditions on abolishing the Executive Presidency.
Sources further said that two UNP parliamentarians have already had unofficial discussions with two JVP parliamentarians on the instructions received by the UNP Leader. The JVP has also proposed names of three candidates to the UNP at these discussions.
In this backdrop, UNP Deputy Leader Karu Jayasuriya and National Organizer S.B. Dissanayake, who were hoping to contest as the party’s next presidential |
