The Lanka Teacher Services Union said that Media Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena had made suspicious and irresponsible statements with regard to the A/Level biology test paper at a media briefing held at the Media Ministry on the 19th.

A press statement issued by the Union’s Secretary, Mahinda Jayasinghe says that Minister Abeywardena referring to the incident related to the A/Level biology paper had said there were two inquiries being conducted into the incident and even before their concluded, the Minister had said the tuition master in question had not leaked questions in the test paper to his students and that an investigation is being launched in to an education sector trade union.
“There are considerable doubts being raised as to whether an inquiry into the incident is actually being held given the contradictory statement made by the Minister even before the two inquiries are concluded. We therefore object to this statement and call on the authorities to reveal to the country details of whom and when the inquiries commenced and to give details of the final findings of the committees within a reasonable period of time.

“Also it is the Lanka Teacher Services Union that first called on the Education Ministry to launch an investigation into the incident related to the Biology exam paper.

“However, at no point was it stated that the respective test paper had leaked.”
