The JVP has launched a poster campaign stating “No more Presidential elections! Abolish executive presidency according to mandate received.”
JVP Leader Somawansa Amerasinghe told the media on Monday (17) that until the executive presidency was abolished, the JVP would protest together with the people.
Amerasinghe said that there is a clause stating, “I agree to abolish the executive presidency that has severely damaged the democracy in Sri Lanka,” in the agreement signed between the President and the JVP on September 7, 2005 prior to the Presidential election.
“The executive presidency is anti democratic. Therefore, Mahinda Rajapakse has agreed to abolish the executive presidency before the end of this term. There is no need for us to discuss about another Presidential election as a result. Now we have to discuss about abolishing the executive presidency,” Amerasinghe said.
