WHAT'S HOT IN SRI LANKA

SLAF helicopters for Sajin’s election campaign

A senior SLFPer told Lanka News Web that the President has provided SLAF helicopters to help the campaign work of Sajin Vass Gunawardena, who is to contest the forthcoming Southern Provincial Council election as the President’s special representative.

Sajin had attended an election related meeting in Hiniduma in a VIP helicopter provided on a presidential directive. The helicopter had landed in the grounds of Sri Sunanda Vidyalaya, Hiniduma, on a school day without giving any prior notice to the school principal and the respective zonal education office.

A convoy of eight Prado vehicles had been waiting for Sajin’s arrival at the school grounds. As soon as Sajin
descended from the helicopter, he was escorted to the convoy of vehicles that were waiting for him. He was taken to the venue of the meeting in the vehicle convoy.

However, none of the SLFPers from the Galle District or the Hiniduma area had attended Sajin’s election meeting. It is learnt that apart from the people who accompanied Sajin from Colombo, there had only been about 18 others from the area. The meeting had lasted only for about 45 minutes.

Senior SLFPers are angered by Sajin’s actions, which they claim are unilateral decisions made by him while misusing the President’s powers and perks.
